The Sheriff operates the county jail and is the starting point for jail-created booking sheets and photographs. Use a specific name, date, and record description when making an Iowa Code Chapter 22 request. Other questions belong with the office that owns that part of the record:
- For a booking record or photo, follow the county search and records-request path, then ask the Sheriff for the exact jail-created item.
- For a warrant question, use the court and Sheriff contacts described under Most Wanted Fugitives.
- For a recent arrest or custody alert, contact the LEC or use IowaVINE. Howard County does not publish a verified live roster or booking feed.
- For the final result of a charge, search Iowa Courts Online or contact the court clerk. Booking charges are accusations, not convictions.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, use the Iowa Department of Corrections offender search.
- For federal or immigration custody, use the official Federal Bureau of Prisons or ICE locator.
